The Trek to Everest Base Camp Begins

-Flight to Lukla in an 18 seat propeller plane. Very short, narrow runway on the mountain My porter, Lakpa Gelu Sherpa, met me at the airport.
-Hiked to Phakding (2,610m). Along the way, saw zopkio (like half cow, half goat). Stayed at International Traveler's Guesthouse.
-Hiked up to Thulo Gumela Monastery, which is about 400 years old. Met Jason from Australia (+Switzerland). Back to tea house for rakshe (millet/rice wine) and a nap.
-Dal Baht Tarkari for dinner in kitchen, near the fire. Afterwards, learned some of the Sherpa language from porters + family there.
