Road Trip to Maryland

-Josh Ritter's Concert w/the Boston Pops at the Boston Symphony Hall.
-Overnight drive to MD, then visited Christina in the hospital.
-Greg's graduation party, then out for Mexican food.
-Cade's christening, then a clean shave from Aunt Mary. She put on an African dress and hat for the occasion.
-Dinner at the Inner Harbor.
-Liberty State Park to see the Statue of Liberty w/Lisa and Billy.
-Rock Bottom Brewery in Braintree for my Birthday (answered Judd's 101 questions about Mt. Everest Base Camp.)

Cairo to Boston

-Took bus to Cairo Airport. A traffic police officer tried to get me to pay 20 pounds to get to Terminal 2, instead of waiting a few minutes for the FREE shuttle.
-Arrived back in USA at JFK Airport. Took flight back to Boston (1st time watching tv in weeks).
-Mom and Jason picked me up at Logan, and we headed straight to the Grasshopper in Allston to meet up with Lisa, Billy, and Bryan. I ordered the Happy Family special.

Alexandria and Cairo

Last full day on the road - 2 years, 2 months, and 2 days after going from CT to Boston, back to CT. -Woke up w/beautiful view of the Mediterranean.
-Athineos Cafe for breakfast. Saw Khartoum Column. Graeco-Roman Museum was closed.
-Went to Bibliotheca Alexandria, w/"Death Star" Planetarium. Amazing library and museum.
-Train back to Cairo. Visited Old Cairo/Coptic Cairo. Saw the Hanging Church, built on top of Roman Towers in the 7th Century. After paying some baksheesh, walked outside to see the Roman Towers.
-Walked down alley w/St. George Convent, Ben Ezra Synagogue, and St. Barbara's Church. Supposedly, Moses, Jesus, and Mary have all visited this place.
-Back to Lialy Hostel.
-Dinner at Estoril - hummus, pita, eggplant.
-Ran into Yosra at internet cafe. Went to Zahnet al-Bustan for Karkadeh and Sheesha(which never came).
-Went to El-Abd Bakery for baklava.
-Midan Orabi for apple sheesha and karkadeh.

Cairo and Alexandria

Al-Azhar Mosque, built in 970 AD. Mr. Muhammed gave me a great summary of Islam, plus some informative booklets.
-Walked to Midan Hussein. Bought a papyrus painting in Khan Al-Khalili. Stopped at Fishawi's Coffeehouse (Ahwa) for the famous mint shai.
-Walked through Islamic Cairo.
-Train to Alexandria. Roman Amphitheater. Sunset over the Mediterranean Sea along the Corniche near Fort Quitbey (former site of the Pharos Tower, one of the 7 Ancient Wonders Of The World.)
-Checked into Hotel Crillon w/beautiful views of the sea.
-China House for dinner on top of the famous Cecil Hotel (Sofitel). Met Eman and Manar there.
-Jumped off a moving bus, then saw the Mohammed Ali Statue (not the boxer). Many little kids playing in the square after 11 PM!
-Watched Italy beat France in the EuroCup match while at the Cap d'Or bar.

-Coloured Canyon Jeep and Hiking trip. Lunch at a Bedouin desert oasis. Hikes some more and ended with some rock climbing.
-Got a really sick stomach again, so I skipped the overnight trip to Mt. Sinai + St. Katherine's Monastery.

-Swam along coral reef in Red Sea, then walked along the boardwalk. Had views of Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
-Back to Penguin for some Bedouin Tea.
-Nirvana India for some Punjab Chole. Then tried the peach sheesha.

Bus stopped many times during the night. Brief stop at Sharm-El-Sheikh.
-Arrived in Dahab w/Luciano, Flavio, and Yosra. Rode in back of pick up truck to Penguin Village.
-Koshari for dinner, and watched the European Cup match while sitting by the Red Sea.

-West Bank Tour w/Kerry and Neil - Colossi of Memnon; Temple of Hatshepsut; Valley of the Kings - King Tut's Tomb, plus Ramses III, IV, and Seti I; Alabaster Statue Shop; Valley of the Queens - Tomb of Queen Titi and tomb of Amunherkhepshef.
-Motorboat ride back to East Bank.
-King's Head Pub with Karen and Neil.
-Luxor Temple - lost my glasses!
-Jamboree for a dinner. Ran back to Luxor Temple to get my glasses, but they could not find them.

Aswan and Temples of Abu Simbel

3:00 AM bus ride to Abu Simbel, near Sudan border.
-Amazing temples - Ramses II and Hathor, right along Lake Nasser.
-Sunset felucca (sailboat) ride along Elephantine Island and the Old Cataract Hotel (site of Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile".) Almost crashed into concrete steps along the dock. I got to steer the boat for a while.
